Installing from the Atlassian Marketplace

To install, follow these steps:

  1. Go to the Atlassian Marketplace page for Hierarchy Field.

  2. Buy or evaluate the add-on with a free 30-day trial.

  3. Enter the details on the New evaluation screen and generate a license.

  4. Download the jar file. Now, log in to Jira as an administrator.

  5. Go to the Administration icon and click on it.

  6. Locate Add-ons from the menu and click on it.

  7. Click on Manage add-ons.

  8. Click on and upload the jar file.

Create a new Hierarchy Field custom field

When installing Hierarchy Field plugin, a new custom field named 'Hierarchy' is automatically created.

  1. Go to Jira Administration > Issues.

  2. Under FIELDS, select Custom fields.

  3. Click Create custom field. Make sure to select All to view the available field options.

  4. Select the new “Hierarchy Field” type of field you want to create and click Next.

  5. Add the details for your field.

  6. When you have entered the field details, select Create.

  7. Add the new custom field to one or multiple screens by ticking the corresponding box and click Update.

Configure your Hierarchy custom field

Every configuration of the Hierarchy Field is unique and tailored to the specific combination of project and field.

  1. Go to your Jira project.

  2. In your project sidebar, select

  3. Under Configure Hierarchy for Custom Field, select the desired custom field.

  4. Build your field hierarchy:

    1. Current Hierarchy field to display its configuration.

    2. Default path: default field value for new issues.

    3. Expand collapse the entire hierarchy.

    4. Create a new node under the specific node.

    5. Edit current node.

    6. Delete current node.

    7. Set current node as the default path.

Searching for issues with specific value

  • Hovering over specific node will reveal its id. It is possible to search for issues with the specific node id:

  • The "~" operator is used to search for issues where its values are with a specific node name or with nodes under a specific node. (This is an exact match search):
