Latex for Confluence Cloud
LaTeX for Confluence Cloud
By Methoda
LaTeX for Confluence Cloud allows users to display beautifully rendered mathematical equations, formulas, and expressions directly on Confluence pages using standard LaTeX syntax.
The app provides a custom Confluence macro powered by KaTeX — a fast, client-side LaTeX rendering engine — supporting both inline and block equations.
If you need to include mathematical notation in your Confluence documentation — whether for engineering specs, academic content, data science notes, or financial formulas — LaTeX for Confluence Cloud is the simplest way to do it. The app adds a LaTeX macro to the Confluence editor that renders your equations instantly on the page.
Getting Started
Installation
Install LaTeX for Confluence Cloud directly from the Atlassian Marketplace. Once installed, the LaTeX macro becomes available to all users in your Confluence instance immediately — no additional configuration is required.
Inserting a LaTeX Equation
Open a Confluence page in the editor.
Type
/latexin the editor to find the macro, or click Insert (➕) → Other macros and search for LaTeX.Select the LaTeX macro.
In the macro configuration panel, enter your LaTeX expression (e.g.
E = mc^2).Choose the display mode — Inline or Block.
Save the page. Your equation is now rendered on the page.
Supported LaTeX Syntax
The macro uses KaTeX for rendering, which supports a wide range of LaTeX math commands. Some commonly used examples include:
Basic operations: +, -, \times, \div, \frac{a}{b}, \sqrt{x}, x^n, x_i
Greek letters: \alpha, \beta, \gamma, \delta, \theta, \lambda, \pi, \sigma, \omega
Calculus: \int, \sum, \prod, \lim, \partial, \nabla, \infty
Linear algebra: \begin{bmatrix} a & b \\ c & d \end{bmatrix}, \vec{v}, \hat{x}, \dot{x}
Relations & logic: \leq, \geq, \neq, \approx, \equiv, \in, \forall, \exists
Delimiters: \left(, \right), \left[, \right], \left\{, \right\}

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Does the app require any external network requests? No. LaTeX for Confluence Cloud uses KaTeX for client-side rendering. Equations are rendered entirely in the browser — no data leaves your Confluence instance.
Q: Does the macro work in exported PDFs? The equation is rendered as part of the page content. Confluence's built-in PDF export will capture the rendered output from the page.
Q: Can I use the macro in Confluence templates? Yes. You can add the LaTeX macro to any Confluence page template, and users will be able to edit the equation content when creating a page from that template.
Q: What happens if I enter invalid LaTeX syntax? KaTeX will display an error message in place of the equation, indicating which part of the expression could not be parsed. This helps you quickly identify and fix syntax issues.
Q: Is there a limit on equation length or complexity? There is no hard limit. However, extremely long or deeply nested expressions may take slightly longer to render in the browser.
Technical Details
